Geek Brigade Summary

  1. DNS Changer was a Mac and PC virus that changed internet settings to redirect traffic to spammers’ servers.
  2. When the government busted the culprits, they replaced the spammers’ servers with good servers, so people had time to fix their settings.
  3. The government is now ready to shut that server down in July.

How do you know it’s a phishing scam?

How do 8.3 million Americans fall victim to identity theft each year?  Emails like this one that arrived in my inbox this weekend.  Three things gave this one away, and hopefully after reading this you’ll be able to spot clues like this in the future.

1.) It’s from paypal@Servce.com.  What’s servce.com?

2.) Paypal knows my name, and uses it in email correspondence.

3.) Look closely.  The link you’re about to click on lives at savethenationsight.org

Ultimately, if you’d like to make sure there’s not a problem with your paypal account, type w-w-w-dot-p-a-y-p-a-l-dot-c-o-m into your browser and log directly into your account.  If there’s a problem, you’ll see it there!

Amazing stuff our high-tech alarm system can do

Comments Off

When we opened our Greenwood service center we installed a high tech alarm system.  What sold me was “‘latchkey” alerts.  Every morning at 8:45 AM I get an email if the alarm system was not disarmed!  It’s also considerably cheaper that the other systems we looked at.  Check out some of these other cool features:

Set up alarm notifications that are received via email or over a text pager.
 Sends alerts when children arrive home from school or when employees arrive in the morning, or leave in the evening.
 Sends alerts when a customer’s security system needs maintenance or when a routine test has been performed successfully.
 Sends alerts when certain events DON’T occur, such as a child not disarming the system after arriving home or when the system misses its daily test signal.
 Sends an SMS alert when an interruption in power and Internet service occurs so the customer knows to reset their system.
Lastly, we can access a complete log of signals our system has sent by logging on to the secure web site. Upon further research, I was surprised to learn we can actually re-programming existing alarm systems to have these capabilities!

If you’d like more information about having one of these high-tech alarm systems installed for LESS than the cost of competing products, contact us today!  We only sell products we USE, so rest assured we KNOW this alarm system forwards and backwards.
